These two
Munros are frequently overlooked, being relatively inconspicuous and lying
back from the A85 road just east of Crianlarich. As compensation however,
they will often be quieter than their more popular neighbours adjacent
to Crianlarich.
Find a parking
spot east of the approach road start to Auchessan and take the private
road on foot to cross the River Dochart. A track goes up the east side
of the burn, which flows down past Creag nan Uan, fading on higher ground.
Cross the featureless moor to gain the col just east of Meall Glas and
finish up the easy slope to reach the summit.
Now go east
along the broad ridge, passing over Point 908m where there is a large
cairn and swinging north east to reach Beinn Cheathaich at 937m. As the
descent from here to the east is steep first go a little way north on
the ridge before dropping down to the flat col at the head of the Allt
Riobain.
Steep grassy
slopes now lead up the west face of Meall a'Churain whose summit is at
917m. Some 680m to the south, along a level ridge, the summit of the second
Munro of the day, Sgiath Chuil, lies four metres higher at the edge of
a crag, at a height of 921m.
Descent is
straightforward; south west towards the Allt Riobain and heading towards
the landmark of Creag nan Uan, below which the ascent track is picked
up.
