Just south
of Loch Laggan lies a group of modest Munros, three in all, which are
taken in by this walk. The total length, some 24 km, may be easily reduced
to a more friendly 16 km or so by using mountain bikes.
Start at
the A86 road at a concrete bridge over the River Spean, about 1 km south
west of the outflow of Loch Laggan near Moy (443 830). Take estate roads,
first south, then bending east round Binnein Shuas to Lochan na h-Earba.
A stalker's path leaves the SE corner of the lochan and goes SE up the
Allt Coire Pitridh. Follow this for about 1.5 km then go south up the
NE flank of Beinn a'Chlachair, the first Munro of the day.
Gain the
shoulder and continue west round the coire edge to reach the summit just
back from the edge. Go back and follow a broad ridge for 1.5 km to just
before a crag. Avoid this by descending to the north and pick up a stalker's
path. At a fork a little lower, take the right fork and continue north,
until its high point is gained, on the west flank of Geal Charn, our second
Munro. Go east and easily up slopes to the summit (1049m; 504 812).
Go back
down west to the col then up a short ascent to Creag Pitridh. Craggy ground
may be avoided by keeping to the left (924m; 487 814). From this final
summit, descend south west and pick up the stalker's path you began with,
leading to Lochan na h-Earba and hopefully, your mountain bikes, for a
swooping descent back to the road.
