Two Corbetts
are on this walk, ideal for the short winter days which bear down on us
at this time of year. Start from Invergaunan in Glen Orchy (NN278 368),
keeping the entrance clear of course!
Walk up by
the Allt Ghamhnain, on the northeast edge of forestry, for about 1.5km,
before turning southwest onto the north ridge of Beinn Udlaidh. Soon you
will cross an interesting geological feature which is visible from quite
a distance, a stratum of quartzite. Ice climbers in Coire Daimh of Beinn
Udlaidh find this a steep challenge when sheathed in ice.
The wide,
flat summit plateau is easily reached. Now continue, first southeast then
bending east-north-east to gain a wide col at about 585m. The climb to
Beinn Bhreac-liath (302 339, 802m) is steep at first before easing to
gain the long summit ridge. Continue along the north ridge before descending
towards the gap in the forestry and the starting point at Invergaunan
on the B 8074 in Glen Orchy.
