These fine
summits are two remote Munros lying between Lochs Laggan and Ericht; they
look over the Bealach Dubh to the Ben Alder massif. While they can be
climbed from Corrour, using the railway to the demand stop at Corrour
and the private road along Loch Ossian, the route described here assumes
a mountain bike is available, taking the private road from the A86 road.
Start from
parking space (NN 433 831) and follow the road across the Spean, heading
for Lochan na h-Earba for 3.5 km then towards ruins at Lubvan. Continue
along the path up the Allt Cam to cross it and climb up the north ridge
of Aonach Beag, marked at its north end by the steepening of Meall Nathrach.
A top at 835m is taken in before the final ascent leading to the summit
at 1116m.
From the
summit, drop down the southwest ridge to a col at about 975m then continue
up the ridge and over an intermediate top, curving gradually west above
Coire a' Charra Mhoir to gain the summit of Beinn Eibhinn at 1102m. Head
west for just under one kilometre to the west top then drop north down
the ridge of Sron an Fhuarain, before contouring somewhat NNE to cross
the Allt Cam again and so pick up the approach path back to Lubvan.
The use of
a mountain bike will knock off 11 km from the total approach of some 25
km, providing a super day in this relatively remote area of the Central
Highlands.
