There are plenty of movers and shakers in the Scottish climbing scene, but
being mostly a modest bunch, we don't often hear about what they're up to.
Our new Who's Who guide reveals the people behind the names, their track
records and their finest moment described in their own words.
The Who's Who focuses only on climbers resident in Scotland and concentrates
on those who have remained active in the last few years to the present
time. It includes:
the leading lights - those onsighting, redpointing and headpointing (and
aiding!) the hardest routes, consolidating or pushing the top standards.
the developers and explorers - those who have dedicated much time and effort
over the years to exploration and development of new areas. This covers
remote mountain & sea cliff areas, crags, including roadside, sport and
bouldering developments.
the young generation - which young guns are showing signs of "kicking ass",
whether it be repeating the hardest winter or summer lines, new routing,
bouldering or alpinism...do some of them have that twinkle in the eye?
Note:
It should be noted that in excluding non-residents of Scotland, many
important climbers have been omitted. I do however wish to acknowledge a few
names of those who have repeated some of our hardest routes, and added many
significant (and ground breaking) routes in Scotland. These climbers
include:
Brian Davidson, John Arran, Dave Turnbull, Ian Vickers, Glenda Huxter, Kath
Pyke, Dave Birkett, Andy Cave, Dave Heselden, Neil Gresham and Mick Fowler.
