| Description: |
Mike first started new routing in the Mull of Galloway area whilst living in Ayrshire.
After moving to Aberdeenshire in 1997 he realised there was still much scope for further development in the surrounding area so together with the interest of other local climbers like Guy Robertson, Tim Rankin, Pete Benson and Ed Brown the recent upsurge of new routes on the north east coast began.
Although Mike has not contributed as much to Scottish climbing as some, he is nonetheless an important figure in these recent developments on the coastline. Over the last few years he has been involved in the development of the forgotten crag of Perdonlie, Seals Caves area where he added the excellent Tyburn Jig, E5 6b and the extensive development on the cliffs of Rosehearty on the Moray Coast.
Mike's main enjoyment comes from onsight ascents of traditional rock climbs, although he has cleaned and rehearsed a few of his more difficult lines. He also confesses to being a 'fine weather' winter climber preferring to keep bad days aside for training and is a regular face on the climbing walls either bouldering or participating in Scottish national competitions. |
| Finest Moment: |
"The first ascent of Heart Of Stone, a steep, loose, but well protected E6, climbed completely onsight." |
