| Description: |
Andy continues to play an active role in the development of Scottish climbing. He pioneered numerous new winter routes in the Cairngorms and the
north west Highlands. His mid `80's climbs including, White Magic (VII,7)
in Coire an T-Sneachda and Fallout Corner (VI,7) in the Lochain, have now
become modern classics. In summer, often with colleagues from Glenmore
Lodge, he left a trial of quality climbs in the North West Highlands and on
the Western Isles.
Nowadays Andy's main interest lies in rock climbing where he still gets a
lot of enjoyment from exploring new areas, repeating quality routes and
adding his own. His attraction to coastal areas has continued with the
development of Sheigra, Ardmair, Reiff and more recently, the Gruinard
areas. Although his onsight level has declined from E5 to E3 in recent
years, his stamina is as good as ever, as is his ability to jam well. He
says "good 'craic' is a must", and his ethical stance is straight
forward - onsight, ground up (although he will clean a good-looking climb
should it be required). |
