Graeme is an accomplished alpinist, keen rock climber and one of Scotland's leading "mixed" climbers. In the Scottish winter alone he has made over 500 ascents of new lines, repeats and classics (climbed predominantly in good style).
A Cairngorm devotee in the early 90's he left behind a string of challenging mixed lines. In Sneachda these included Paramedic, VII,7, Flying Doctors, VI,7, (both 1991) and Escapologist VI,7 (1992) and in the Lochain, Prore and the Vicar, both grade VIII,8's (1992).
Graeme qualified as a British Mountain Guide in 1998. Between alpine and Scottish guiding seasons, he still manages to make the time for his own climbing interests, whether these be first ascents in winter, rock climbing trips across the States or Africa, sport cragging in Spain, or being involved in the more recent rock developments at Gruinard and Gairloch in the north west.
In recent years he has continued to show an interest in the Northern Corries with first ascents such as Roy Castle (VI,7) on Carn Etchachan, Gable End Buttress (IV,6) on Stag Rocks, Transformer (VII,8) and Millennium Line (VII,7) on the Lochain, and The Truncator (VI,7), also at the favourite haunt of the Lochain, with Garthwaite.
He says, "Today I am more particular about what routes I climb. Their quality, line and style all play important roles".
